- Most participants reported life-changing improvements in PTSD symptoms.

In Mexico, a nonprofit called the Heroic Hearts Project organized a retreat for veterans dealing with combat-related trauma. The program utilizes psychedelic substances, such as psilocybin and 5-MeO-DMT, with the aim of alleviating post-traumatic stress disorder.
Michael Giardina, a Navy veteran, described his intense experience during the retreat, which involved confronting dark emotions and past traumas. He found that guided support during the psychedelic sessions was crucial for him to begin processing childhood abuse and recent family losses.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is actively exploring psychedelic therapies. Currently, the VA is involved in 20 clinical trials investigating MDMA and psilocybin for various mental health conditions. Officials believe these therapies can address the root causes of trauma.
Nearly a year after participating in the retreat, eight out of nine individuals, including Giardina, reported their experiences as life-changing. They indicated significant improvement in their post-traumatic stress symptoms, finding new perspectives on life and relationships.
