Dietary Supplements Halt Prostate Cancer Progression
7 Jan
Summary
- Supplements with vegetables and good bacteria slowed cancer indicator.
- Progression slowed more with added probiotic in Bedfordshire trial.
- Intervention could help men avoid over-treatment and anxiety.

Experts suggest that enhancing the diets of prostate cancer patients could help them avoid surgery. An international trial led by Bedfordshire University found that supplements containing vegetables and "good" bacteria slowed the progression of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood, a marker for tumor growth.
The trial involved men with slow-growing tumors receiving supplements with ingredients like broccoli, turmeric, and green tea, with half also taking a probiotic. Both groups saw PSA progression slow, but the effect was more pronounced in those taking the probiotic, offering hope for managing anxiety and avoiding over-treatment.
