September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a critical time for men to undergo screening for the disease, which is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. The Busch Center in Alpharetta is drawing international attention for its use of transurethral ultrasound ablation, a treatment known as Tulsa. Dr. Joe Busch, an interventional radiologist at the clinic, has utilized this technique on over 600 patients, with a reported 88% retention of sexual function.
Urologic Surgeon Dr. Steven Morganstern, also a patient at the Busch Center, stressed the importance of early detection, noting that finding cancer while confined within the gland significantly improves treatment outcomes. His experience highlights that prostate cancer can affect anyone, urging men to prioritize health check-ups.
David Hart, a 61-year-old project manager, shared his personal battle after being diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer in December 2025. Following intensive radiation, Hart recently completed his treatment, expressing relief and encouraging other men to get tested, recalling his brother-in-law's passing due to delayed diagnosis.
For those seeking accessible screening, the Emory Winship Cancer Institute is offering free mobile prostate cancer screenings until the end of September.
