Over the last three years, Tata Steel Foundation's Project Poshan has positively impacted the health and nutrition of more than 3.32 lakh people in Jharkhand and Odisha. This flagship program has been instrumental in rehabilitating over 13,000 children diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM).
The initiative also extended its support to over 55,000 anaemic adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and women of reproductive age. Interventions included nutrition counselling and iron-folic acid supplementation, aiming to boost haemoglobin levels.
To bolster healthcare at the grassroots, Project Poshan trained 657 anganwadi workers and 980 Asha workers in crucial areas like child growth monitoring and malnutrition management. The project also fostered nutritional security by facilitating the creation of over 22,000 household nutrition gardens.
This comprehensive approach directly addresses critical child health indicators such as stunting (31%), underweight prevalence (29.7%), and wasting (18.1%) in underserved regions of Jharkhand and Odisha.
