The Nest drop-in centre in Prince Albert serves as a crucial safe space, offering social connections for 20 to 40 individuals daily. Clients, like Holly Knife who lives with schizophrenia, find friendship and employment opportunities within the centre's canteen. This initiative by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Prince Albert branch aims to combat social isolation, a common issue for those living with caregivers.
The CMHA branch, operating for 30 years, provides essential advice and resources for conditions such as autism, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. They also facilitate connections to housing, managing 26 independent living units. Jenna Klassen, an independent client, exemplifies successful integration through employment at SARCAN and The Nest, enjoying the social atmosphere and activities offered, including bingo and art classes.
The branch receives support from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, requiring referrals from a mental health nurse for access to services. Community members are invited to celebrate the CMHA's 30-year anniversary on Wednesday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 155 12th Street West, featuring informational booths, music, and prize draws.
