Premature Baby Saved by Punjab Health Scheme

A newborn girl, born prematurely with underdeveloped lungs, faced critical breathing complications shortly after birth. She received extensive care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for over 50 days, requiring ventilator support, specialized nutrition, and continuous clinical observation. The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, a state government health coverage program, entirely covered the approximately ₹3 lakh hospital expenses. This initiative ensures that families can access specialized medical treatment without facing financial distress during emergencies.

The scheme has significantly supported neonatal care, covering over 4,400 cases through various packages. These include specialized, intensive, advanced, and critical care, with claims totaling over ₹6.28 crore in the past seven months. Additionally, the program has assisted 474 women with high-risk pregnancies or complicated conditions, such as premature deliveries and severe pre-eclampsia. The government emphasizes that timely access to such care reduces health risks and financial burdens for families.
