A 22-year-old pregnant woman has died in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after undergoing a surgical procedure by a doctor reportedly in an inebriated state. The incident occurred at a private hospital in Puwayan on September 8.
The woman, identified as Julie, was in labour and was being transported to a government hospital. The ambulance driver diverted them to a private facility where Dr. Firoz allegedly called Dr. KP from the city. It is reported that Dr. KP arrived and proceeded with the surgery while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Julie successfully delivered a baby boy during the night of September 8-9. However, her condition later deteriorated, prompting doctors to advise her family to transfer her to Bareilly. She passed away while en route.
A case has been filed against Dr. KP and Dr. Firoz under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Julie's death.
