3 Jan
Summary
- A pregnant woman died after walking 6 kilometers through jungle paths.
- Her village lacks basic medical facilities for childbirth.
- Doctors were unable to save her or the baby.
A tragedy unfolded in Gadchiroli district where a pregnant woman, Asha Santosh Kiranga (24), died after walking 6 kilometers to access medical care. Her village, Aaldandi Tola in Etapalli taluka, is isolated and lacks any delivery facilities, forcing her to travel.
On January 1, she and her husband journeyed through jungle paths to her sister's home in Petha. However, the arduous trek exacerbated her advanced pregnancy. By the morning of January 2, she experienced severe labor pains and was taken by ambulance to Kali Ammal Hospital in Hedri.
Despite doctors' efforts to perform a caesarean operation, it was too late; the baby had already died. The mother's condition rapidly deteriorated due to rising blood pressure, and she passed away shortly thereafter. A detailed investigation has been initiated.
