- RAINIERN trial shows significant proteinuria reduction.
- Patients prefer autoinjector and 4-week dosing.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is anticipating a U.S. FDA decision on povetacicept for IgAN, with a target action date of November 30. The company recently published Phase 3 RAINIER trial results in The New England Journal of Medicine and presented this data at ASN Kidney Week.
The RAINIER trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating a 49.8% reduction in proteinuria compared to placebo. Significant improvements were also observed in secondary endpoints, including serum Gd-IgA1 levels and hematuria resolution.
Further clinical studies revealed that 96% of IgAN patients preferred an autoinjector for administration over a prefilled syringe. Additionally, 80% favored a dosing schedule of every four weeks due to convenience.
Povetacicept, an engineered fusion protein, targets BAFF and APRIL cytokines involved in IgAN pathogenesis. If approved, it will be administered via a low-volume autoinjector once every four weeks at home.
