Pottstown Hospital Faces Drastic Cuts: Nurses, Cancer Center Shuttered
18 Nov
Summary
- Tower Health laying off over 100 nurses and healthcare workers at Pottstown Hospital
- Pottstown Hospital closing cancer center and ICU
- Patients and community leaders rally against the layoffs and service cuts

On November 18, 2025, Tower Health, the parent company of Pottstown Hospital in Pennsylvania, announced it would be laying off more than 100 nurses and healthcare workers and cutting services at the 70-year-old hospital. The news has sparked outrage among patients, staff, and community leaders, who gathered outside the hospital on Monday to voice their concerns.
One of the hardest-hit services is the hospital's cancer center, which is set to close down. Johnny Corson, a patient receiving monthly infusions for multiple myeloma at the center, expressed his anger, saying the nurses there "treat you like your family." Cancer nurse Maria Guitierez, who has been battling her own cancer while caring for patients, called the layoffs "life-upending."
In addition to the cancer center, Tower Health is also shutting down Pottstown Hospital's ICU and endoscopy centers. A representative for the company said the "difficult decisions" were made out of "necessity to ensure that we can chart our own pathway forward and continue serving our communities." However, workers describe the situation as a "sad moment" for the hospital, which has been a "lifeline" for the community.
Corson has filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office, worried about the impact on hospital staff and patients. Despite the company's assurances, the future of Pottstown Hospital remains uncertain as it faces these drastic cuts to its services and workforce.
