E. coli Scare Expands: Pizza Pops Recall Widens
26 Jan
Summary
- Recall of Pizza Pops products expanded due to E. coli O26 contamination risk.
- Multiple varieties and packaging sizes of Pizza Pops are affected by the recall.
- E. coli symptoms can include severe stomach cramps and bloody diarrhea.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has broadened a recall for select Pizza Pops products previously announced before Christmas. This expanded recall now includes multiple varieties such as three-cheese, pepperoni, and deluxe, across various packaging sizes, due to potential E. coli O26 contamination.
An initial recall on December 21 also cited possible E. coli contamination. Public health officials previously reported that several individuals were hospitalized as the E. coli outbreak extended to seven Canadian provinces.
According to the CFIA, E. coli O26 may not present visible or olfactory signs of spoilage but can still cause illness. Consumers should dispose of or return the recalled items to their point of purchase.
