Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield is set to upgrade its A&E department by relocating a therapies and psychology unit to Queen Elizabeth House, a former council-run care home.
The hospital trust purchased the building for just under £1 million. This facility will be transformed into 19 new consulting rooms, therapy areas, offices, and staff changing rooms, with parking for nearly 80 vehicles.
This strategic move aims to enhance patient pathways, creating modern, purpose-built environments for quicker assessments and safer care. The trust also announced a £9 million award from NHS England to alleviate pressure on urgent and emergency services.
Professionals such as physiotherapists, speech therapists, dietitians, and psychologists will operate from the new location during weekdays.
