Summary
- A dedicated cardiac emergency facility is set to open at PGI on March 1.
- New unit aims to improve response times for critical heart conditions.
- Preventive clinic targets young adults to combat rising heart disease.

Effective March 1, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh will inaugurate its dedicated cardiac emergency facility. This crucial development aims to enhance the timeliness and effectiveness of care for patients experiencing acute cardiac events.
For years, cardiac emergencies were managed within the general emergency wing, which handles a broad spectrum of critical cases. The establishment of this specialized unit is expected to decongest the main emergency department and ensure that time-sensitive cardiac patients receive prompt, focused treatment.
Recognizing cardiovascular diseases as a leading cause of death in India, particularly among younger demographics and women, PGIMER has also launched a Preventive Clinic. This clinic focuses on individuals aged 18 to 40, providing tailored lifestyle guidance based on comprehensive evaluations to mitigate long-term risks.
Experts highlight that symptoms in women are often misdiagnosed and that modern lifestyles contribute significantly to heart strain. The new facility and preventive measures underscore PGIMER's commitment to improving life-saving cardiac care and public health.
