Summary
- Thousands recruited for a major study on severe mental health.
- Project aims to develop personalized treatments for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
- Genetic data combined with records to improve diagnosis and treatment.

Thousands of individuals in England are being enlisted for the GlobalMinds project, a large-scale study targeting severe mental health conditions. This initiative aims to revolutionize treatments for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression.
Supported by NHS England and 10 NHS trusts, the three-year study plans to recruit 49,000 participants. Eligible patients will be contacted via the DigiTrials service to provide genetic data from blood or saliva samples, combined with questionnaire responses and NHS medical records.
Led by Akrivia Health in partnership with Cardiff University, the study has already enrolled approximately 2,000 patients and will include 1,000 individuals with dementia. This effort seeks to create the first large-scale dataset linking genetic and clinical information to advance precision medicine in mental health.
Experts believe this research could unlock a new era of personalized mental healthcare and help address the global mental health crisis. The project, initially launched in England and Wales, plans for international expansion.
