28 Sep
Summary
- Health P.E.I. reported a security breach affecting personal information.
- The leaked file from 2011 contained health card and personal details.
- The breach occurred within a third-party service provider, not Health P.E.I. systems.
Health P.E.I. has disclosed a security breach that may have exposed the personal information of individuals who held a P.E.I. health card in or before 2011, as well as non-residents who received health services in the province between 2008 and 2011. The incident involved a file created in 2011 which an unauthorized person obtained.
The compromised data included names, dates of birth, health card numbers, and Medicare eligibility. Health P.E.I. stated that its own systems were not affected and that the breach happened within a third-party service provider.
Officials believe the risk of misuse of the leaked information is low. The province's information and privacy commissioner is currently investigating the incident. Health P.E.I. is providing contact information for its privacy office for those with questions regarding the breach.
