- Over 15,000 OPD patients annually handled by the division.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) recently hosted a significant two-day Monothematic Conference on Paediatric Cholestasis. This event, held on Sunday, also featured the fourth Prof Saroj Mehta Memorial Oration. The conference aimed to address the growing clinical demands on the division, which provides care for over 15,000 outpatient and 1,000 inpatient cases annually, alongside around 3,000 endoscopic procedures.
International and Indian experts gathered to discuss critical challenges in paediatric cholestatic liver diseases, conditions characterized by impaired bile flow from the liver. Dr. Sadhna Lal, head of the division, emphasized the conference's focus on biliary atresia, a persistent problem in India, and other forms of paediatric cholestasis. The goal is to enhance specialized care and expertise.
The conference also recognized the resilience of young patients who have successfully navigated their treatments. Children aged 1.5 to 9 years, including a six-year-old liver transplant recipient for biliary atresia and a seven-year-old treated for primary sclerosing cholangitis, were honored. Their recovery stories underscored the vital role of early detection, comprehensive care, and consistent follow-up in achieving positive outcomes.
