14 Apr
Summary
- A 36-year-old patient died days after a stent procedure and brain surgery.
- The family alleges medical negligence and wrongful financial exploitation.
- Authorities will form a medical expert panel to investigate the hospital.

A 36-year-old man, Deepak, died on April 13, approximately nine days after being admitted to Indus Hospital for chest pain. Initially undergoing a heart stent procedure on April 4, his condition reportedly deteriorated, leading to a CT scan revealing a brain clot. Doctors then performed brain surgery, after which Deepak never regained consciousness and was placed on a ventilator.
Deepak's family has accused the hospital of gross medical negligence and financial exploitation, alleging that the brain surgery was conducted without proper consent and that the patient was kept on artificial life support to incur significant charges. They specifically hold Dr Rajesh Kumar and Dr Naresh Bansal accountable.
Hospital operations general manager, Dr Vineesh Narula, refuted these claims, stating that the family had consented to the procedures and was informed of potential complications. He explained that the brain clot was treated after the heart procedure, but despite best efforts, the patient could not be saved.
The Dera Bassi police have confirmed receiving a complaint from the family and have taken custody of the body for further examination. A panel of medical experts will be formed by the Civil Surgeon in Mohali to investigate the incident, with further actions to be determined by the investigation's outcome. This hospital previously faced allegations of financial irregularities in April 2023.
