Tribal Area Hospital Stalled: Patients Suffer
25 May
Summary
- Multi-speciality hospital construction in Parvathipuram is under 60% complete.
- District hospital overcrowded with over 1000 outpatients daily.
- Specialist doctors are unavailable, forcing referrals to Vizag.

In Parvathipuram, Manyam district, the construction of a much-needed multi-speciality hospital has stalled, with completion rates not exceeding 60%. This project, whose foundation stone was laid six years ago, has faced significant funding and payment delays, leading to its current state.
The district hospital in Parvathipuram is severely overcrowded, handling over 1000 outpatients daily against its 150-bed capacity. The shortage of specialist doctors forces many patients, particularly those with severe heart, kidney, or cancer-related issues, to travel 140 km to Vizag for treatment.
Public outcry is growing for the immediate appointment of specialist doctors and the swift completion of the hospital building. The current situation places immense pressure on the existing healthcare infrastructure, with an average of 40 cases referred to Vizag monthly and hundreds of patients seeking specialized care elsewhere annually.
Despite the projected completion date of November last year, the deputy executive engineer stated that brickwork and plastering are nearly finished, with the entire building expected to be completed by the end of this year.
