Summary
- A man paralyzed by a rare autoimmune disorder regained mobility.
- Life-saving treatments were derived from donated plasma.
- He urges more people to donate plasma for others' recovery.

Tony Newitt, a 71-year-old from Warwickshire, has regained his ability to walk after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder. He received two treatments derived from donated plasma at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. Initially told he might never walk again, Newitt defied expectations and walked out of the hospital in October.
His recovery was made possible by what he describes as "liquid gold" – treatments from donated plasma. Newitt's daughter, a former blood donor now donating plasma, highlighted that these treatments were instrumental in her father's ability to rebuild his life. NHS Blood and Transplant reports that over 3,200 patients have received immunoglobulin medicines made from UK-donated plasma since March, with a goal to increase domestic supply.
