C-Section Burn: Doctor, Hospital Face FIR
26 Feb
Summary
- A woman sustained a burn injury during a C-section surgery.
- The FIR alleges the burn occurred on an unrelated body part.
- Police registered an FIR under BNS Sections 125(a) and 289.

Panchkula police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a doctor and Cloudnine Hospital concerning alleged medical negligence during a C-section surgery on November 16, 2025. The complaint was lodged by Kiran Singhmar on behalf of her daughter, Ruchika Singhmar, 31, who reportedly sustained a burn injury near her ankle, an area unrelated to the surgical site.
The FIR, registered at the MDC police station, states that the hospital did not promptly inform the patient or her family about the burn injury. The family claims this led to significant physical pain, permanent scarring, emotional distress, and additional medical expenses.
Following a medical inquiry, police found grounds to register the FIR under BNS Sections 125(a) and 289, pertaining to reckless acts endangering life and negligent conduct with machinery, respectively.
Cloudnine Hospital, in response, stated that the case was reviewed by the Chief Medical Officer's office in Panchkula. A hospital spokesperson asserted that all necessary medical support, including plastic surgery, was provided until February 2, 2026, and the patient's condition was stable. The hospital refuted the allegations as misleading attempts to damage its reputation.
The civil surgeon's committee report concluded the burn was an electric accident during the procedure. While no deliberate act was found, the report noted it was a preventable accident, potentially due to staff negligence or ignorance in handling electrocautery equipment. The committee confirmed the hospital provided dermatological and plastic surgery care once the burn was identified. The family has also filed a complaint with the consumer forum.
