- NGOs are reportedly not sharing HIV data with the government citing confidentiality.

Pakistan is grappling with a significant number of HIV cases, with 84,000 registered individuals, of whom 61,000 are receiving treatment. Health Minister Mustafa Kamal highlighted concerns regarding the funding for HIV prevention and treatment. He stated that the Global Fund, a major international partnership, allocates over 90% of its funds for combating HIV in Pakistan to non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Kamal further elaborated that NGOs, including the United Nations Development Programme and Nai Zindagi, received $61.1 million of the $65 million allocated for 2024-2026. The minister expressed frustration that these NGOs are not accountable to the government and refuse to share data, citing confidentiality. This has led to a situation where the government lacks complete visibility into the utilization of these substantial funds.
