A national symposium on paediatric emergency care, held on June 12 and 13, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between government and private hospitals to reduce child mortality and morbidity. District Collector P. Akash emphasized that such partnerships are integral to a robust healthcare system.
The symposium, organized by Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital in association with Christian Medical College, Vellore, and The Indian College of Emergency Medicine, was dedicated to enhancing paediatric emergency and trauma care. Through expert lectures, case-based discussions, and hands-on simulation training, participants gained knowledge in managing conditions like septic shock, respiratory emergencies, and neurotrauma.
Narendra Nath Jena, the organizing chairman, stressed that strengthening these services, alongside immunisation and nutritional support, is vital for reducing preventable childhood deaths. Early recognition of serious illnesses and prompt, evidence-based treatment were identified as crucial for improving survival rates and preventing long-term disabilities among children.
The scientific program featured insights from eminent paediatricians and emergency medicine experts, covering a wide array of emergency care topics for critically ill and injured children. This initiative aimed to bolster the preparedness of healthcare professionals in critical care.
