10 Mar
Summary
- 217 of 804 registered hospitals did not report organ transplant data.
- State governments will initiate action against non-compliant hospitals.
- Over 20,000 organ transplants were performed in 2025 nationwide.

As of March 10, 2026, the Ministry of State for Health informed the Rajya Sabha that 217 out of 804 hospitals registered for organ transplantation failed to report their data on the National Registry Portal during 2025. Consequently, respective State governments are preparing to take regulatory action against these non-compliant facilities.
The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994, mandates that state governments handle such regulatory actions. The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Registry Portal has been operational since 2015, serving as a platform for authorized users to submit and access transplant-related information.
As of March 3, 2026, the national waitlist for major organs comprised 89,839 individuals. In the year 2025, a total of 20,019 organ transplants were successfully conducted across the country. The Central government continues to support the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP) to enhance infrastructure and boost organ donation awareness.
