A family's compassionate decision to donate the organs of their brain-stem-dead loved one has given three critically ill patients a second chance at life. The RMLIMS hospital successfully facilitated its first cadaveric organ donation and kidney transplant. The donated kidney and liver were sent to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, while another kidney was transplanted at RMLIMS.
The deceased, Manoj Kumar, was admitted to RMLIMS after an accident and was declared brain-stem dead following unsuccessful medical interventions. His family, after being counselled, chose to donate his organs, believing his life could continue to sustain others.
This significant achievement represents a milestone for RMLIMS's transplant program. The successful cadaveric kidney transplant, performed on a 44-year-old chronic kidney disease patient, offers a beacon of hope. The hospital expressed deep gratitude to the donor's family for their courageous and selfless act.
