Oncologist Prescribes Daily Sunshine to Boost Cancer Prevention

On November 15, 2025, Delhi-based oncologist Dr. Sudipto De revealed that getting enough sunlight is crucial for cancer prevention. In an Instagram video, Dr. De explained how vitamin D from sunlight can help fight cancer cells and reduce the risk of death from the disease.
The oncologist noted that while vitamin D supplements may provide some benefits, they are not as effective as the vitamin D obtained naturally from sunlight exposure. According to research, those with the right vitamin D levels, between 30 to 50 nanograms per milliliter, have a lower risk of colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer.
To help meet the recommended vitamin D levels, Dr. De suggests getting at least 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight each day, while also using sunscreen. He added that a balanced diet with foods like fish, eggs, and fortified milk can also contribute to maintaining healthy vitamin D levels. If levels are found to be low, the oncologist recommends discussing supplements with a doctor.
While vitamin D is not a magical shield against cancer, Dr. De emphasized that it is a powerful part of a healthy lifestyle. The oncologist's advice serves as an important reminder to make regular, safe sun exposure a priority for cancer prevention.
