Summary
- Olymel chicken strips recalled in Quebec for Listeria risk.
- Best before date Oct. 10, 2026; specific UPC involved.
- Listeria symptoms severe, especially for vulnerable groups.
A recall has been issued for Olymel-brand chicken breast strips in Quebec because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) identified the recalled products as size 2 x 175g packages with UPC 0 69094 63596 3, and a best before date of Oct. 10, 2026.
Consumers are strongly advised to discard or return the recalled chicken strips immediately. The CFIA warns that Listeria contamination may not be detectable by sight or smell but can lead to serious health issues.
Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems are at higher risk. Pregnant women can experience mild flu-like symptoms, but the infection poses risks of premature delivery, newborn infection, or stillbirth.
