Oklahoma's cyclosporiasis cases have more than doubled, with the state's Department of Health confirming 170 infections. This parasitic illness has led to 12 hospitalizations within the state, but no fatalities have been reported. The outbreak has impacted individuals aged 9 to 94.
Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control reports 4,173 confirmed cases across 41 states since May 1. Over 7,400 additional cases are under review, suggesting the total number will rise. As of Monday, 308 hospitalizations have been recorded nationwide, with no deaths attributed to the infection.
An earlier recall of iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico, linked to restaurants like Taco Bell, was later identified as a false positive. However, the FDA still advises caution and recommends thorough washing and cooking of all produce to mitigate the risk of infection.
