Odisha Doctors End Strike After Govt Pact
5 Jul
Summary
- Odisha doctors' strike concluded on Saturday after government assurances.
- A committee will be formed within three days to address doctor's demands.
- Government agreed to immediately hike dental doctors' remuneration.

The largest association of government doctors in Odisha, the OMSA, called off its protest on Saturday, July 4, 2026. This decision came after the Mohan Majhi Government provided assurances regarding their demands for improved service conditions and workplace safety. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling engaged in constructive discussions with the OMSA.
The government committed to forming a committee within three days to deliberate on the ten demands put forth by the doctors' association. The OMSA plans to present detailed justifications for each demand to this committee. As an immediate measure, the remuneration for dental doctors will be increased, with other demands to be addressed systematically.
The OMSA's specific demands included the implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression aligned with the central pay structure, abolition of Level 15 pay, and a three-year exit policy for backward regions. Other requests involved constructing Capital Hospital II, ensuring OMHS cadres serve public needs, and implementing proportionate cadre restructuring.
Previously, the strike had severely impacted health services throughout Odisha, leading to long queues and disruptions in essential services like post-mortems. The resolution of the strike is expected to restore normal functioning of healthcare facilities across the state.
