Health officials in Maryland are alerting the public to possible measles exposures at three popular Ocean City locations. An individual from another state, confirmed to have measles, visited specific sites from September 3 through September 6.
Locations include Casablanca Oceanside Inn from September 3 to September 6, Buona Vita Pizzeria on September 3, and Bonfire Restaurant on September 5. Measles is an airborne illness, remaining infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. Direct contact and touching contaminated surfaces also pose a risk.
The risk of contracting measles is generally low for those who are fully vaccinated. Initial symptoms typically include fever, runny nose, cough, and red eyes, followed by a rash. Symptoms usually appear 10 to 14 days after exposure, but can range from 7 to 21 days.
Individuals who may have been exposed are urged to monitor for symptoms for 21 days. If symptoms develop, it is crucial to avoid public places and contact a healthcare provider beforehand to prevent further spread.
