Senior Nurse Caught Sleeping on Duty, Forged Signatures
7 May
Summary
- Senior nurse slept routinely on night shifts.
- Nurse forged colleague's signature on controlled drug records.
- Professional misconduct deemed 'very serious' by panel.

A senior nurse, Xoisa Hlatshwayo, who served as the clinical lead at the Hollies Care Home, has been removed from the nursing register. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) found that Hlatshwayo routinely slept during her night shifts between January 2023 and April 2024.
Further misconduct was uncovered when Hlatshwayo admitted to forging a colleague's signature on records detailing controlled drug administration. This act of dishonesty came to light during an unannounced inspection. Faced with the evidence, Hlatshwayo apologized and resigned immediately.
The NMC panel concluded that her behavior demonstrated a profound lack of professionalism. They stated her actions showed a 'total disregard for following procedures and policies' and prioritized herself over the safety of vulnerable patients, deeming her conduct 'fundamentally incompatible' with being a registered nurse.
