25 Sep
Summary
- A manager offered to donate a kidney to her nurse.
- Both participated in the NHS Living Kidney Sharing Scheme.
- Successful transplants occurred in July 2025 for both.
A remarkable act of generosity unfolded within Harefield Hospital when manager Emma Neves offered to donate a kidney to her colleague, nurse Charis Browne. After years of managing a kidney condition, Charis learned she required a transplant.
Unbeknownst to Charis, Emma initiated the process to become her donor. Both women joined the NHS Living Kidney Sharing Scheme. While Emma was not a match for Charis, the scheme successfully paired her with another recipient and found a donor for Charis.
Both Charis and Emma underwent their life-changing surgeries in July 2025. They have since recovered and returned to their roles at the hospital. Charis expressed feeling immensely improved following her transplant.
