A severe medical negligence case has emerged from MY Hospital in Indore, where a nurse allegedly severed the thumb of a one-and-a-half-month-old infant with scissors. The incident happened on January 7th while an IV cannula was being removed from the baby, who was hospitalized for pneumonia and had been on ventilator support.
Following the alarming event, the accused nursing officer, Aarti Kshotriya, was suspended. Further disciplinary measures included withholding a month's salary for a nursing in-charge and two assistant nursing in-charge officers. The hospital superintendent was directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The infant was immediately taken to the Super Specialty Hospital, where surgeons performed a successful reattachment of his thumb. Officials, including the state's Deputy Chief Minister overseeing the health department, have been alerted and have ordered a comprehensive inquiry and strict disciplinary action against all staff found guilty.
