Nova Scotia is set to open Atlantic Canada's first dedicated Menopause Centre of Excellence in the Halifax area, fulfilling a 2024 election promise. This new facility will significantly expand access to specialized menopause care for the region's residents.
The centre will provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary support, including physicians, nurses, dieticians, and pelvic floor physiotherapists. Virtual appointments will also be available, extending care to individuals outside the immediate Halifax region.
With an investment of $4 million for startup costs and $2.4 million annually for operations, the province aims to meet the substantial demand for menopause support. An estimated 350,000 Nova Scotians are currently experiencing menopause.
While the exact location is being determined through a tender process, the centre is anticipated to open its doors next winter. Research and educational components are also planned for future development.
