Care Home Closed After Third 'Inadequate' Rating
15 Apr
Summary
- Sterling House care home in Norwich was closed after repeated inadequate ratings.
- Inspectors found significant safety and security shortfalls in the building.
- Residents have been relocated with families and council support.

Sterling House, located on Thorpe Road in Norwich, has ceased operations as a care home following its closure by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This decision came after the facility received an 'inadequate' rating for the third time. The latest inspection on February 10 revealed seven breaches of legal regulations, with the home rated inadequate across all assessment areas. Significant and widespread shortfalls in building safety and security were noted, which had not been addressed promptly.
During the inspection, residents, many of whom had dementia, were observed with little interaction. Concerns were also raised about low overnight staffing levels. The CQC had previously issued a notice restricting further admissions on September 4, 2025, due to failing regulations concerning safe care, premises, and equipment. The provider had not demonstrated learning from previous assessments, leading to continued breaches in safe care, safeguarding, and staffing, impacting the quality of care provided.
