Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad has achieved a remarkable feat, successfully completing 1,000 robotic-assisted surgeries. This significant milestone was reached in under three years, highlighting the rapid adoption and effectiveness of advanced surgical technology at the institute.
A substantial majority, over 90%, of these complex procedures were provided to patients at no cost, facilitated through government healthcare schemes such as Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This underscores NIMS's dedication to making advanced medical treatments accessible to the public.
The Department of Urology performed the highest number of surgeries, totaling 590, which included complex cancer operations and renal transplantations. Surgical Gastroenterology followed with 248 procedures, and Surgical Oncology conducted 162 surgeries for various cancers, utilizing organ-preservation techniques where possible.
NIMS Director Rahul Devraj commended the efforts of the surgical departments, nursing staff, and all personnel involved in reaching this surgical benchmark. He also expressed gratitude to Telangana Health Minister and the Chief Minister for their support in enhancing advanced healthcare services and infrastructure at the institute.
