30 Jun
Summary
- An NHS nurse was banned due to poor English language skills.
- She failed to recognize a patient's seizure and missed pulling alarm.
- The incidents occurred at Broomfield Hospital between 2021 and 2022.

A nurse has been prohibited from working in the NHS due to concerns over her English language skills, which were found to pose a risk to patients. Animol Puthanpurackal Thomas's employment as a supernumerary nurse at Broomfield Hospital, near Chelmsford, concluded in May 2022.
A report from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) highlighted critical failures in her practice. Specifically, the panel determined that Thomas did not identify a patient having a seizure in February 2022 while attending to them. Furthermore, she neglected to pull an alarm bell during this serious incident.
Previous hearings had already brought to light that Puthanpurackal Thomas experienced difficulties with the English language during multiple significant events. The Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust confirmed she has not worked at the hospital since her tenure ended.
