Newborn dies after 'blue and floppy' delivery at home

A devastating inquest has revealed that a newborn, Poppy Hope Lomas, died seven days after a planned home birth due to complications. Poppy was delivered 'blue and floppy,' a state described by her mother, Gemma Lomas, who recalls midwives being slow to respond with a sense of urgency.

Doctors later discovered Poppy had been deprived of oxygen for approximately seven to eight minutes. Her mother reported that the head midwife encouraged a vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) at home but failed to fully explain potential risks, making her feel the consultant's approval was merely a formality.
