Newborn Death Prompts Hospital Official Removal
22 Sep
Summary
- Resident medical officer removed after newborn's death.
- Allegations of delayed C-section decision cited.
- 25% of agency payment to doctor to be deducted.

Days after a newborn died during delivery at the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's Shaktidham Maternity Hospital, the civic health department has taken action.
The resident medical officer on duty during the incident has been removed from their post. The department also mandated a 25% deduction from payments due to the agency that deployed the doctor.
Preliminary inquiries by the KDMC health department indicated that the RMO failed to inform the gynaecologist about the baby's worsening condition. This communication lapse is believed to have caused a delay in necessary medical interventions, ultimately leading to the newborn's death.
The family of Rutuja Dinesh Patil, the mother, alleged medical negligence. They stated that despite being admitted for delivery and undergoing treatment for nearly seven months, doctors initially advised a normal delivery. As the baby's condition deteriorated, with reported drops in the heartbeat, the family claims their requests for an emergency Caesarean section were not acted upon promptly.
