A groundbreaking 'one-stop trauma services centre' is being established at GTB hospital, designed to integrate emergency, outpatient, and crucial support services within a single complex. This initiative aims to revolutionize trauma response by bringing together specialized departments such as neurosurgery, orthopaedics, burns and plastic surgery, and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.
The facility will operate with a multi-specialty approach, equipped with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure. It will provide comprehensive care, encompassing emergency trauma services, OPD, and both clinical and non-clinical support. Departments including orthopaedics, neurology, and cardiovascular services will be housed within this dedicated block.
Constructed at a total cost of ₹244.87 crore, the center will comprise a ground-plus-six structure with a basement, spanning approximately 19,900 square metres. It is planned to accommodate 206 beds, with a significant allocation of 80 beds for the intensive care unit (ICU), alongside 44 non-census beds for observation and pre- and post-operative care. Additionally, parking for 199 vehicles will be available.
The project is being managed by Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC) and is anticipated to be completed within approximately 15 months. The central government is contributing financial assistance of around ₹120 crore towards its development, with a detailed project report and draft memorandum of understanding already submitted for governmental approval.
This new center is expected to significantly alleviate the pressure on established trauma facilities like AIIMS and Safdarjung. By centralizing emergency and specialized treatment, it aims to streamline patient care and reduce the overall patient load at these existing institutions, marking a significant advancement in Delhi's healthcare infrastructure.
