Summary
- Robotic AI water jet trial aims for fewer side effects.
- UK trial compares Aquablation to traditional prostate removal.
- This therapy aims to preserve quality of life post-surgery.

Researchers in the UK have launched a pioneering clinical trial for Aquablation, a novel prostate cancer treatment that utilizes robotics, artificial intelligence, and real-time imaging. This therapy aims to offer a less invasive option with fewer side effects compared to the traditional radical prostatectomy.
The Aquablation technique employs a robotic-assisted water jet, guided by ultrasound mapping, to precisely remove cancerous tissue. Surgeons can identify and target malignant cells while safeguarding surrounding nerves and muscles responsible for erectile function and bladder control, potentially improving post-operative quality of life.
This trial, which is being conducted across seven countries and is recruiting 280 patients worldwide, represents a significant step towards offering alternative surgical solutions for localized prostate cancer. The ultimate goal is to enhance treatment efficacy while minimizing harm and invasiveness for patients.
