Summary
- New PTSD treatment achieved 68% remission in a clinical trial.
- Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy customizes magnetic stimulation.
- FDA cleared the treatment in June 2026 for marketing.
- Patients experienced an average 52% reduction in PTSD symptoms.

A newly FDA-cleared treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has shown promising results in a clinical trial. Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT), developed by Wave Neuroscience in collaboration with Texas A&M University, achieved a 68% remission rate among participants. This innovative therapy uses a patient's unique brain activity, measured by electroencephalogram (EEG), to customize transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted clearance for MeRT in June 2026.
The clinical study, involving 158 adults, found that patients receiving MeRT experienced an average 52% reduction in PTSD symptoms. This outcome was significantly greater than that observed in a sham treatment group. While the FDA clearance marks a significant step, further research is needed to fully understand the treatment's long-term effectiveness and its applicability across diverse patient populations.
