A new choir tailored for maternal mental health is launching in Godalming, Surrey. Emily Bollon, an experienced choir leader, is establishing these sessions at Buzzbridge Village Hall, aiming to create a supportive community for mothers.
Bollon recognized a gap in postnatal support, noting the abundance of baby classes but fewer focusing on the mother's health. This choir offers an opportunity for mothers to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of singing. Singing is known to lower cortisol levels while increasing beneficial hormones like dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin, and can also enhance bonding with babies.
The group will commence with a three-week soft launch in May. A package of three sessions will be available for £36, with individual drop-in sessions priced at £15. Bollon, with nearly 20 years of choir experience, highlights singing as a powerful tool for navigating the mental, emotional, and social challenges of early motherhood.
