World-class cancer care is now centralized in Kerala with the opening of the Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC). The new complex, costing ₹449 crore, was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. This facility will significantly enhance cancer treatment and research accessibility for patients in central Kerala, reducing the need for long-distance travel.

The CCRC is situated on 12.63 acres within the Kalamassery Medical College campus, featuring nine buildings. It includes 16 elevators, modern operation theatres equipped for complex surgeries, and parking for 550 vehicles. One theatre is specially designed for future robotic procedures.

Beyond clinical services, the CCRC emphasizes cancer research, dedicating 10,000 square feet for this purpose. The complex is equipped with advanced scanning, X-ray, and radiation therapy services, integrating AI technologies. Notably, it is Kerala's first hospital building to receive EDGE certification and is powered by solar energy, aiming for full carbon neutrality by 2050.
