17 Aug
Summary
- State to create first-ever peri-menopausal care policy for women's health needs.
- Pregnant women to receive Bluetooth BP monitors for real-time data tracking.
- Children under 18 with type 1 diabetes to get free year-round insulin supply.

The state is set to implement groundbreaking health policies, with a strong emphasis on women and child healthcare. A significant development is the forthcoming "Peri-Menopausal Care Policy," designed to proactively identify and manage the physical and mental health requirements of women. This policy will include screening, counseling, and treatment services, establishing a vital support system.
In parallel, advancements in maternal and child health are being rolled out. Pregnant women will utilize Bluetooth-enabled blood pressure monitors, allowing for real-time data transmission to healthcare providers, ensuring prompt interventions. This initiative will initially reach approximately 10,000 pregnant individuals across 14 districts.
For pediatric care, children under 18 with type 1 diabetes will now receive a free, year-round supply of insulin at government hospitals, a crucial step for managing the condition. Additionally, the "Irumbu Kanmani" program will conduct anemia screening for about 1.65 million adolescents.
Further innovations include rare genetic disease screening for newborns and the establishment of Neo Genesis Units for extremely low birth weight infants. The state is also launching an Autism Early Detection Programme and a Childhood Obesity Prevention Programme, alongside other specialized treatments and facility enhancements.
