Summary
- New catheter techniques successfully treat previously untreatable blocked heart arteries.
- The 12th Indo Japanese CTO Club summit discussed advanced coronary interventions.
- 15 live complex coronary interventions were transmitted from global centers.

Advances in catheter-based coronary interventions are revolutionizing the treatment of completely blocked heart arteries. Experts highlighted at the 12th Indo Japanese CTO Club summit that many patients, previously considered unsuitable for intervention, can now be treated successfully. These sophisticated catheter techniques represent a remarkable transformation over the past decade.
Previously, patients with complex Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) were often referred for bypass surgery or left untreated. Now, advanced catheter-based methods offer successful treatment options. The summit featured live transmissions of 15 complex coronary interventions from prominent cardiac centers across India, Japan, Europe, and the United States, fostering global knowledge exchange.
Discussions centered on contemporary CTO strategies, including advanced guidewire and microcatheter technologies, antegrade and retrograde approaches, and imaging-guided interventions. Specialized sessions addressed managing heavily calcified blockages, crossing complex lesions, and enhancing procedural safety in challenging cases. Further discussions focused on treating vulnerable patient groups, such as those with severe heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and prior bypass surgery. Over 800 cardiologists and specialists participated in the three-day event.
