St. Boniface Hospital will introduce a specialized unit for cardiac patients beginning in early July. This new cardiac assessment unit is designed to provide quicker testing and monitoring for individuals with cardiovascular conditions, aiming for rapid patient turnover and earlier discharge. The provincial government has allocated $22.1 million to re-establish Heart Care Manitoba, a move that also includes increased funding for essential cardiac services.
This significant investment will bolster operations in key areas such as the cardiac catheterization lab and the electrophysiology lab, expanding their service days. Furthermore, the funding supports the addition of an extra cardiologist in the emergency department during mornings to address patient backlogs and improve flow. The hospital is also increasing its in-patient cardiac care beds by 19 and establishing a centralized access office.
