Summary

- The centre will replace an outdated aseptic suite preparing chemotherapy doses.
- The new unit will be built off-site to reduce costs and time.

Plans have been approved for a new replacement cancer drug centre at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, Berkshire. The existing aseptic suite, which currently prepares around 750 chemotherapy doses each month, requires replacement due to the age of the building and some equipment. A previous, larger plan was not progressed due to cost and time concerns.
The new facility will be a single-storey building with a 331sqm footprint, designed for a seamless connection to the hospital. Before construction begins, an outdated office building on the site will be demolished. The primary goal of the new aseptic suite is to deliver exceptional development that meets urgent clinical care needs and enhances local cancer treatment production capacity.
To optimize costs and timelines, the new aseptic suite will be constructed off-site and then transported to the hospital. This modern unit will feature isolation rooms, cleanrooms, and office spaces, ensuring the trust can maintain its essential healthcare functions for the local community.
