Smiths Falls Welcomes New Addiction Treatment Hub
5 Dec
Summary
- Smiths Falls HART Hub opens Monday for addiction recovery.
- Ontario government shifts strategy from supervised sites.
- Hubs connect patients to comprehensive treatment services.
The Ontario government has announced the opening of the new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub in Smiths Falls, scheduled for Monday. A similar facility will launch in Brockville in the spring, forming a unified Lanark County hub in partnership with local mental health services.
This new HART model emerges following the provincial government's decision to ban supervised drug consumption sites near schools. Health Minister Sylvia Jones stated that these HART hubs will prioritize treatment options over what she described as enabling drug use.
The HART hubs are designed to offer a spectrum of services, encompassing primary care, mental health and addictions support, social services, and employment assistance, with over two dozen such centers planned across Ontario.
