6 Jul
Summary
- A new immunotherapy drug, CY-101, shows promise for advanced adrenocortical carcinoma.
- The Clarity trial, now underway, assesses the safety and effectiveness of CY-101.
- This innovative treatment aims to convert 'cold' tumors into 'hot' tumors.

A novel immunotherapy, CY-101, developed by Cytovation, is generating excitement as a potential new treatment for advanced adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), a rare and aggressive cancer. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) announced the global Clarity trial, which will evaluate the drug's safety and effectiveness. This innovative treatment is designed to harness the body's immune system to target cancer cells and overcome resistance.
The Clarity trial commenced in the UK across seven sites and is scheduled to run until July 2032, with plans for expansion into Europe. The study aims to enroll 41 individuals aged 16 and above who have undergone limited previous treatments for ACC. This development offers a beacon of hope for patients like Jennifer Rayner, diagnosed in 2018, who noted the scarcity of research and the harsh side effects of existing therapies.
About 350 people in the UK are diagnosed with ACC annually, with approximately 130 fatalities. The Phase 2 Clarity study follows encouraging outcomes from a Phase 1 trial in solid tumors. Experts express optimism that CY-101 could lead to better outcomes and longer lives for those affected by rare cancers. Collaboration with the Norwegian Cancer Society is crucial to advancing this research.
