A new 20,000-square-foot emergency department has opened its doors in Union City, significantly expanding access to 24-hour emergency care for South Fulton residents. The facility, which began operating at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, is equipped with 16 treatment beds, pediatric care services, and on-site imaging and laboratory capabilities.
This new emergency department represents the initial phase of a much larger medical campus development by Grady Health System in the area. The expansion is a direct response to long-standing community needs, addressing the considerable travel time to the nearest existing emergency room, which was previously nearly 30 minutes away.
Further enhancing healthcare services, Fulton County commissioners approved a $900 million partnership with Grady in March 2026. This collaboration includes plans for a full-scale hospital, a medical office building, and a 200-bed acute care facility, with the complete campus targeted for completion by 2031.
